In contrast to the qualifier lineup, IM Sven Tica was absent from the Croatia Bulldogs and was substituted by a strong Czech grandmaster Peter Michalik. The Bulldogs rooster, therefore, consisted of:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/peter-michalik\/\">GM Peter Michalik<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/tuan-minh-le\/\">IM Tuan Minh Le<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/leon-livaic\/\">IM Leon Livai\u0107<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/jadranko-plenca\/\">IM Jadranko Plen\u010da<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the other hand, Hungary Hunters also didn&#8217;t shy away from the confrontation and also sent a very impressive lineup, led by the (in)famous Czech number one, David Navara:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/david-navara\/\">GM David Navara<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/tamasz-banusz\/\">GM Banusz Tamasz<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/peter-prohaszka\/\">GM Peter Prohaszka\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chessentials.com\/Croatia_Bulldogs\/player\/trang-hoang-thanh\/\">GM Trang Hoang Thanh<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite a somewhat surprising choice of the 4th board (GM Trang Hoang Thang is the lowest rated player out of the 12 players in the Hungary Hunters Rooster &#8211; although this doesn&#8217;t mean anything, as we are about to see), with two 2600+ players and one 2700+ player, the rating gap was clearly in the Hunters favor and there was no doubt who was the favourite in this match.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Round 1<\/h2>\n<p>In the first couple of minutes of round 1, the situation looked very good for the Croatian team. Nc1 Qa1 {Black's position is optically  active, but White has only one target - the pawn on c3 - which is safely  defended.} 36. Kg2 Nc6 $6 {The knight doesn't have a bright future on this  square. Jadro and Leon got dispatched quite convincingly by their strong opponents Tamasz and Navara. Tuan Minh Le provided us with a small glimmer of hope with his victory against Trang Hoang Thanh. Be3 {White starts playing a bit too passively.} (26. Re7 {  Was a difficult, but no impossible move to find. Black can't take on c5  because of Rg1, but else it is not entirely clear what he does next.}) 26...  Rd8+ 27. Kc2 a6 28. Rd1 (28. Bb6 {Was strong here, evicting the rook and not  giving up the control of the e-file. After} Rd7 29. Re4 {White is in control.})  28... Re8 29. Bc1 (29. Rd3 $5) 29... Re7 30. Rd3 Kf7 31. Rf2 Rh5 32. f4 {It is  also questionable whether White should have restricted his own bishop on c1  with this move. The pawn might become a target. As they say - pawns don't move  backward.} (32. Bf4 {Securing the h2 pawn, made some sense}) (32. Be3 {  Intending Bd4 was also quite logical}) 32... Bf6 33. Re3 $6 {Amazingly this  exchange allows the Black king to become active and should have been avoided.}  Rxe3 34. Bxe3 Ke6 35.
